Sealed Units

Progression in window technology doesn't stand still, and the new innovations offer more energy efficiency, security and hassle-free maintenance. Take a look at some of the innovations we implement in our windows.

Triple Pane

The continued progression towards energy-efficient windows will increase the need for triple-pane insulating glass. The triple-pane unit is more complex than the standard double-pane unit because of the reaction that occurs with two sealed airspaces. Triple pane consists of one, two or lites of Low-E coated glass with an interior glass substrate, which creates two insulating chambers. These chambers can be filled with either argon or krypton gas. Triple pane glass will provide maximum R-values, reduced sound transmission and 95% UV blockage all in one unit.

This technology of the Triple Pane Glass Unit saves energy but also increases comfort through great sound insulation and by keeping glass surface temperatures close to human body temperature, thereby reducing the radiant heat loss that we often perceive as a “draft” coming from a window.

LowE 272 Glass

Cold or hot outside, Cardinal comfort inside.

Regardless of where your home is located, choosing windows that provide you with the highest level of comfort and energy savings year-round is extremely important. And choosing the right glass for your windows is the most important factor in that decision. Go beyond the ordinary Low-E glass. Let LoÄ’²-272 help you handle the weather – any weather.

Frigid outside, cozy inside.

During cold weather, the insulating effect of your windows has a direct impact on how your rooms feel. Typically, 75% of the exposed surface of a window is glass, and the temperature of the room-side of the glass directly affects the air temperature in the room. The better insulated the window glass, the warmer your room will be.

In fact, the Efficient Windows Collaborative (www.efficientwindows.org) suggests that when glass surface temperatures fall below 52°F, there is a risk of thermal discomfort. To maintain the best comfort during the winter, select a glass product that produces surface temperatures that will stay above this point during the coldest outdoor conditions.

LowE 366 Glass

Cardinal LoÄ’³-366® glass is the ultimate performance glass. It just might make all other Low-E glass obsolete.  LoÄ’³-366 delivers the ideal balance of solar control and high visibility. And it provides the highest levels of year-round comfort and energy savings.

It’s also the one glass you can use to be compliant in every ENERGY STAR zone – in a double-pane window. Couple it with LoÄ’-i89®, and you’re compliant in the North. Its low SHGC makes it compliant throughout the rest of the country as well. It’s the perfect glass wherever you live.

Beats the heat. Keeps the view. When the temperature soars, ordinary window glass just can’t handle the heat. And tinted glass spoils the view. Cardinal LoÄ’³-366, however, has been specially formulated to reject the sun’s heat without affecting the view. It lets more light in and keeps more heat out. So your home stays cool and comfortable. Our patented LoÄ’³-366coating provides the ultimate in performance of all our LoÄ’ products.

What’s more, LoÄ’³-366 provides exceptional fading protection as well. It blocks 95% of the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays (a leading cause of fading), so it will help your furniture, carpets, curtains and wall coverings stay beautiful for years to come.

It’s the perfect cold remedy, too.

Naturally Clean Glass

Cardinal introduces Neat® naturally clean glass. It harnesses the sun’s UV rays to loosen dirt so water can rinse it away, leaving windows virtually spotless. Your windows will stay cleaner longer and will clean easier.

Homeowners and builders will enjoy the effects that a little sun, rain and Neat glass brings to windows. Not only that, because Neat is applied to Cardinal’s LoÄ’® coated glazings, homes stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Clearly, Neat glass is the choice for your windows.

It all starts with the sun.

The titanium dioxide layer of Neat glass reacts chemically with the sun’s UV rays and causes organic materials that are on the glass to decompose. It works even on cloudy days, as 80% of UV radiation gets through the cloud cover. Thus when it rains, the decomposed dirt no longer clings to the glass, easily rinsing away.

Smoother glass is cleaner glass. And Neat glass is ultra-smooth. A thin layer of silicon dioxide makes Neat glass exceptionally smooth and hydrophilic, much smoother than ordinary hydrophobic glass. This allows water to disperse evenly or “sheet off” and evaporate quickly, greatly reducing water spotting.

LoÄ’ comfort and efficiency when Neat glass is fabricated with Cardinal’s low-emissivity LoÄ’ coatings, it provides maximum comfort indoors. Therefore, you enjoy year-round comfort inside the home and an average of 25% energy savings annually.

Neat glass, clearly the top choice. Easier to clean window glass just got better with Cardinal’s Neat naturally clean glass. No manual activation required, just a little help from the sun. The results are almost spotless windows, less time cleaning and more time enjoying the view.

Select double-pane, tempered or laminated configurations, in custom shapes and sizes and with any of our LoÄ’ coatings. All are available with Neat glass.

Laminated Glass

Life can be unpredictable. Everyone is concerned about the safety of homes and families. Unforeseen weather can cause havoc for homeowners. Today’s auto and air traffic mean that the world is an increasingly noisy place.

So taking practical steps to protect your interests is smart. Laminated glass products from Cardinal LG Company can help, offering a level of security and serenity that can’t be realized with ordinary glass.

Safety, security and serenity. Ordinary annealed glass breaks easily. Tempered glass, while stronger, shatters under a greater impact. But laminated glass is different. If laminated glass is broken, the vinyl interlayer remains in the frame, with glass fragments adhering to the interlayer. This provides a strong barrier against forced entry and cannot be cut from one side only, which renders glasscutters useless.

Cardinal’s laminated glass meets rigorous industry codes, including the American Society of Testing Materials standard for preventing forced entry (ASTM F1233) and the burglary resistant guidelines issued by Underwriters Laboratories (UL972). Our laminated glass is customized to meet the requirements of any security application, providing the best options available.

Planes, trains and automobiles. The world gets noisier every day. Laminated glass is an effective way to reduce unwanted outside noise. This is especially useful in areas near airports, industry, traffic, or wherever unpleasant sounds exist.

The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) developed the sound transmission class rating (STC) to describe the sound isolation performance of materials. A higher STC rating indicates a greater sound dampening the effect.

The laminated glass increases the STC rating of a window, diminishing unwanted outside noises. When combined with an IG unit, the acoustical benefits to your windows increase – and a double-laminated IG unit provides maximum sound protection.

Protect your home from fading. Fabric, furniture and other materials fade and become discoloured over time when portions of the solar energy spectrum enter a room. The potential fading reduction of solar energy through glass can be determined by a measurement called Damage Weighted Transmission (Tdw).

Single pane clear glass, with a Tdw of 0.84, allows most of the UV and visible energy to come through into the room, offering very little protection. On the other hand, laminated glass can block over 95% of the UV energy while allowing most of the visible light through. The composite performance is a Tdw of 0.66 – twice the fade protection of ordinary glass, all without affecting the growth of your plants.

Resists intense impact. During windstorms and hurricanes, windborne debris is common, and following impact, windows may be subjected to sustained, gusting winds. Sea-Storm® laminated glass is crafted to offer a high level of impact resistance and remain integral in the window envelope even after glass breakage.
